The ultimate stealth e-road bike, with hidden electric power assistance at the touch of a button and when you need it most. With its range and market-leading weight you can climb faster and ride further, whilst experiencing less fatigue than you ever dreamed possible. Sharing the same DNA as the high-performance Endurance SL series results in a bike that gives you a significant performance boost to get you over previously unimagined mountain passes, keep up on hilly group rides and smash that ride that took you outside your comfort zone. Make it possible with the Endurance SL e.

E-Road Bike of the Year Winner

Fully internal cable routing and compatibility with the LEVEL5 carbon integrated handlebar system for a super-clean, cable free, front end and a drag reduction of up to 40% when compared to a traditional handlebar and stem.

The lightweight MAHLE SmartBike Systems 36V/250W X35+ hub-drive motor system provides 3 smooth levels of power assistance up to a maximum of 15mph, with near-zero drag in off-mode. Ensuring your ride feels as natural as a modern high-end carbon road bike.

To preserve the high-performance carbon road bike looks it was necessary to secure a slimline and lightweight Panasonic 250W battery that would fit discreetly within the downtube. A battery that would reach maximum capacity when fully depleted in just 3.5 hours and is capable of providing on average up to 60 miles of assistance over variable terrain.

An advanced Toray T800/T1000 monocoque construction and full EPS inner core system for consistent strength and improved torsional stiffness. The aero efficient tube profiles provide 28.5% less drag than traditionally shaped framesets. Designed with dropped seatstays for additional comfort and improved power transfer.

An easy to use, top-tube mounted, control button enables the power assistance level to be selected whilst on the move, as well as indicating the amount of battery charge remaining.

Steve Walker
tl;dr - it's brilliant; genuinely transformational for my approach to cycling.

Summary: although the electrical assistance isn't delivered how I expected, the way the Endurance SL-e works suits my particular cycling needs perfectly.

More detail: cycling has always been the type of exercise that I hate the least and I have covered several thousand miles on a conventional road bike, occasionally with pleasure. However, I'm not a dedicated follower of personal bests with an ambition of going ever faster; I was happy to get my average speed for a 30-mile cycle above 15mph on a regular basis, and my main objective for going cycling is to get exercise and help keep my weight under control. I find hills and headwinds daunting and up to now have normally sought routes which minimise these. Also, sometimes, towards the end of a ride, I find my energy levels dipping, which means that the rest of the ride is an exhausted trudge home.

This Endurance SL-e from Ribble addresses all these issues while still enabling me to get a decent level of exercise. I can now choose to cycle on any route, irrespective of hills or winds, and I can reach areas which would previously offered a high risk of being too demanding. This makes a cycle much more likely to be an enjoyable experience. The gearing and delivery of assistance complement my cycling style perfectly, and the range is fantastic (even after 75km I still had 50% of battery left).

I still need to take the bike for a professional fit to make it as comfortable as it can be, and after that I look forward to being able to undertake long rides with relish.

History: I had an e-bike 10 years ago, which alerted me to the possibilities of electrical assistance; but back then the technology wasn't quite up to the job and I sold it on, because of gearing and range issues, in favour of a conventional road bike.

To be clear, I'm a road cyclist, not really interested in paths or tracks.

Fast forward 10 years, during which I covered 5,000 miles on a conventional road bike and watched the technology of e-bikes improve year by year. What I wanted was an e-bike which had the same gearing as my conventional bike - and the same weight (around 12kg). Step forward the Endurance SL-e. All I had to do was convince myself that the proce was worth it. Eventually, I screwed my courage to the sticking point and put my order in (trying not to be disappointed with a 7-month wait!). And now it's here, it's fantastic. It's been a long wait, but it really seems that the technology has improved to the point where it complements my cycling style and needs perfectly.

The only downside? It's so desirable that I haven't yet had the courage to use it for anything other than circular rides; I fear that if I stop for a coffee or use it for shopping it will swiftly get stolen. So my current project is researching robust locking solutions for my brilliant new bike.
The price of the SLe is not cheap so I was expecting quite a bit from Ribble. Ordering was a simple process with easy to follow guides and a nice touch of custom colours. Once the ordering was completed came the wait. Now there's a lot of riders out there expecting their bike to be finished in a month or so. Due to challenges outside of Ribble's control, with a world wide spares shortage which we are all suffering from the waiting process took time. I knew this when I ordered and I knew the challenges Ribble faced. Remember, quality takes time to build and 3 months later my bike arrived.Well worth the money and yes, I would do it all over again! Be patient, it will take time, but it's well worth it. I've lost nearly a stone since it arrived and that's the proof of how much I like it! At last I can keep up with the pack again.

Frequently Asked
Do I need to pedal to ride this ebike?

Yes, our e-bikes are pedal-assisted models which require rider input at all times.

I’m worried that I won’t have full control over the bike?

There’s no need to worry, being a pedal-assisted model means you are in full control at all times. When a power assist level is selected the motor simply provides a little extra boost whilst you pedal and does not take over.

Do I need tax, insurance or a licence to ride the ebikes?

No, pedal-assisted electric bikes do not require you to hold a valid driver’s licence, pay any form of road tax or take out insurance.

How do I charge the battery?

To charge the battery you simply plug the bike into a household socket using the supplied charger and cable. (The optional range extender can also charge the main battery whilst you are on the move).

Can I ride this in the wet?

The electric components used on our e-bikes are IP54 rated. They are protected against splashing, but not against full immersion. The electric bike should never be subjected to pressurised water from a hose pipe or jet wash, failure to adhere to this may result in damage to the electrical components that comprise the motor system . When transporting the bike on the outside of a vehicle a waterproof cover should be used to ensure the protection of the electronic components from water ingress during transportation.

Can this bike be purchased on a Cycle to Work scheme?

Yes, all ebikes can be purchased through all the major Cycle to Work scheme providers. The government have even removed the £1000 limit making obtaining an ebike through Cycle to Work more beneficial than ever.

Is it possible to test ride the bike?

You can test ride any of our e-bikes and receive expert buying advice at our flagship Clitheroe showroom. Please contact the showroom in advance so that we can ensure that any suitable bikes that you wish to test are available for your visit. During the summer months, we also host demo events at various locations across the UK. For details of the dates and times of these events please refer to our events page.

Alternatively, you can hire the e-bike from E-Venture Bikes in Keswick, the rental cost will then be deducted from your purchase should you decide to buy one of our e-bikes. We also hope to be able to reinstate the Ribble roadshows which travel around the UK offering people the opportunity to test ride our bikes. We will update the events page of our website and share the details via our social channels once we have any events confirmed.

How much does the Endurance SL e weigh?

Builds start at sub 10.5kg, the Sport build weighs in at 12.4kgs, Enthusiast - 11.95kgs and Hero - 10.49kg.

What electronic drive system does the SLe use?

The SL e has been built around the MAHLE SmartBike Systems X35+ hub drive motor system.

Can I alter the assistance levels of the motor system?

Yes, you can cycle through 3 different assistance modes (which can be configured further in the app), or choose to have the motor turned off completely; all at the press of a single button.

How does the motor work?

The SL e’s motor system is 'pedal-assist', which means that the motor adds assistance to each pedal stroke.

How fast can I go on the SL e?

The SL e’s motor system will power you until you reach 15mph, at which point (by law, and as with all e bikes in the UK) the assistance will cut out. If you drop below 15mph the system will automatically kick back in with assistance if required.

What is the range of the SL e?

The battery range of the Endurance SL e depends on a number of factors including rider weight, route profile and temperature. A rider of 90kg, on a varied route including climbs, descents and flats using the low power setting can expect an average of 60 miles range. An optional range extender is also available for all of our e-bikes, which takes the total capacity to 456Wh and increases the available range by up to 70%.

Can I go faster than 15mph?

Yes, and with builds available from sub 10.5kg you may find yourself above this speed a lot of the time. The motor will only assist you up to 15mph, and for speeds above this you will be relying on your legs.

What if I get a puncture in the rear wheel?

It is simple to disconnect the rear wheel from the frame by unclipping the connector on the chainstay and releasing the nuts on the rear axle. Then reconnect by clipping the cable back in, insert the wheel and tighten the nuts.

What is the warranty on the electric bikes?

The frame has a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects. All other parts are covered by the manufacturer's standard warranty. The MAHLE SmartBike System is covered against manufacturing defects for a period of 2-years.

Can I fit mudguards?

Yes the frame is compatible with full mudguards thanks to its integrated mudguard mounts.

What is the maximum tyre width that the frame can accommodate?

The Endurance SL e is suitable for tyre widths up to 32c without mudguards, though this is dependant upon the model / brand of tyre fitted. With mudguards fitted the bike will accept 25c tyres.

What type of riding is this bike best suited for?

The Endurance geometry of this frame is best suited to comfort and efficiency over longer distances on road, as well as an aid to climbing. If you're going to be riding off-road often, we would suggest the Gravel AL e which has the same MAHLE SmartBike System.

How many bottle cage mounts are there?

Each frame size has mountings for 2 bottles.

Does the frame have fittings to allow a rack to be mounted?

No, the frame does not have rack mounts incorporated. For an e-bike with rack mounts, see the CGR AL e.

Is it Di2 compatible?

Yes, thanks to its fully internal cable routing the frame is fully compatible with electronic groupsets.

How long does it take to charge the battery?

From fully depleted the battery takes 3.5 hours to reach full charge.

Do I need to remove the battery to charge?

No, the charging port is easily accessible on the outside of the frame.

How will I know how much battery I have left?

The button mounted on the top-tube indicates the remaining battery life at a glance using a simple colour-code. White= 75% capacity or more remaining, Green= 50-75%, Orange= 25-50%, Red= 15-25%, Slow Red Flash= 10-15% and Rapid Red Flash= 10% or less remaining. You can also keep track of the remaining battery life using the MAHLE SmartBike System companion app.

Is there an app to use with the system?

Yes, the motor system’s companion app is compatible with both Apple and Android OS’s and offers a full suite of functionality; from monitoring your exact battery life, to pairing the system with a heart rate monitor and having the motor kick in at a specific BPM limit.

How does the SL e’s weight compare to other E-Road bikes?

The SL e is one of the lightest e-Bikes currently available. As reference points, the Pinarello Nytro is 13kgs; and the Orbea Gain is 11.3kgs.

Is the battery and /or motor replaceable?

Yes, the battery is accessible through the bottom bracket shell and can easily be removed by any MAHLE certified technician. The motor is also easy to replace.

Are the brakes flat mount or post mount?

The brakes are the most current flat mount variant.

What plug sockets are supplied for international orders?

Our SL e bike is available with UK or US power cables.

Will the battery be chargeable in the USA as a different voltage is required? (also applied to other countries)

Yes, bikes shipped to the US are equipped with a drive system that offers a higher maximum speed and includes a US power cable. Though charge times may vary to those stated for the UK.

How do you charge the battery?

You charge the system via the charging port that is easily accessible on the top of the bottom bracket shell.

What is the life expectancy of the battery?

Like any battery, the capacity will start to degrade over time. In the case of the Panasonic battery it should be after approximately 500 charging cycles if its care and maintenance is adequate. Please take some to read ourbattery care blog in which we outline the best practices to ensure that your e-bike's battery continues to function at optimal efficiency throughout its lifespan.

What BB does it take?

The Endurance SL e takes a press-fit style of BB, Shimano builds require a 86.5x41 BB and Sram a BB86.

Where does the additional battery mount/plug in?

The additional battery comes in the form of a bottle and is supplied with it's own bottle cage. This replaces the seat tube mounted bottle cage (this cannot be mounted on the down tube), the charger then plugs into the charging port on top of the bottom bracket shell.

Is the bike supplied with pedals?

Due to the many different systems people use we do not supply pedals with bikes but you can find a great array of pedals here.
